Leadership Council

CUMC Leadership Structure

The Leadership Council is designed to have effective and efficient decision-making in light of the larger mission of CUMC to make disciples of Jesus Christ serving the greater Carlisle community and beyond. We elect 9 Leadership Council members who each oversee an area of ministry and mission within the church. Each area has teams that make the ministry happen that involve over 100 of our members! The lead pastor, Rev. James VanZandt, and associate pastor, Rev. Mira Hewlett, are non-voting members of the Leadership Council.

Current Leadership Council Structure Chart

The Leadership Council meets on the third Monday of every month in the Library. Any schedule changes will be announced in the Midweek Minute as they are made and posted on the kiosk in the Gathering. Executive Sessions start at 5:00pm and are followed by Open Sessions starting at approximately 5:45pm.

Leadership Council Candidates:

Ron Chipriano - My wife, Jan; daughter, Abby; son-in-law, Kevin; grandsons, Miles & Declan, and I attend CUMC.
CUMC is a spirit-filled outward looking church.
I see many outreach programs at CUMC that make a profound difference in our community and beyond. One of the outreach programs I’m involved in is My Brother’s Table. When our church serves the evening meal the love of Jesus for others is present.
I sing in the Celebrations choir and teach Sunday School. Both of these ministries help me and others grow in faith.
When we came together I was a member of the LC. I’ve been off the LC for a year. Since then I’ve been getting gentle nudges to again step forward. I’ve prayed about this and discussed it with Jan. At this time I feel it’s the right decision to step forward to do God’s work for this wonderful church.

Debbi Goeltsch - I’ve had the opportunity to serve on LC for the past two years. I’ve found it to be a challenging, learning, growing, fulfilling experience. I would like to continue this journey. I have enjoyed participating in the growth of CUMC with its ambitious plans to reach out to our community and fill a new sanctuary on the Spring Garden campus.
I’ve been married to my husband, Bob, for 45 years. We have one daughter, Melissa. She is married with two children, Jonathan and Abby. They live in central New Jersey.
At CUMC, I’ve been a part of or led several great Bible and book studies including Disciple, Theology Cafe, and most recently, “When Christians Get It Wrong.” I am a tutor with the Homework Club at Hope Station.
During these two years on LC I have worked with the Connect and Serve pillars. There is so much happening at CUMC. We care for one another and extend that Christian love to Carlisle and beyond. I look forward to what our future holds.

Michelle Williams -  I attend CUMC’s Contemporary Service with my husband, Greg, who teaches Pathways Sunday School class at 11:15am. Greg and I came to CUMC through connections with our church in Virginia. Barb and Jeff Harpel reached out to us months before we moved to Carlisle and we had the opportunity to get to know the heart of CUMC before attending the first service. We stayed because the heart we saw then continues to be the one we experience each week - living for Jesus and serving the community.
God stirred my heart shortly before I was asked to consider being a part of the Leadership Council. I pray I will be a steward and partner in His work as the next phase of His plan is laid out for Carlisle United Methodist Church.
