General Conference 2020: Seeking A Way Forward
On January 3 2020 the UMC Council of Bishops announced a that a diverse group of representatives from United Methodist advocacy groups with contrasting views and bishops from around the world has collaborated on a proposed agreement for the separation of The United Methodist Church (UMC) that has the unanimous support of all the parties involved.
This proposal is one of MANY being submitted to The United Methodist General Conference that meets in May 2020 to consider/revise the rules and direction of the global UMC. In light of the Special General Conference of 2019 there was much unrest throughout the denomination in response to the upholding of exclusion of LGBTQ+ marriage and clergy.
