Legacy Funds

The Carlisle UMC Legacy Funds program provides members and friends with a number of options to give to Carlisle United Methodist Church, through wills, endowment gifts, memorial and honor gifts and trusts, to support the mission and ministries of CUMC.

You are invited to participate in exciting opportunities to give to Carlisle United Methodist Church to meet current needs or needs for many years to come.

The CUMC Legacy Funds Program provides members and friends with a number of options to give to Carlisle United Methodist Church, through wills, endowment gifts, memorial and honor gifts and trusts, to support the mission and ministries of Carlisle United Methodist Church.

Gifts may be made to:

  • One of the Endowment Funds of Carlisle UMC
  • One of the Ministry Funds of Carlisle UMC
  • Walk of Faith, honor and memorial pathway, supporting new church building fund

endowment funds

The Endowment Funds are permanent funds, the principal of which shall be held in perpetuity and cannot be used.  Income from the endowment funds will either be re-invested or deposited in one of the Ministry Funds.  There are General Endowment Project Funds and Specific Endowment Project Funds.  The General Endowment Project Funds of Carlisle United Methodist Church are:

  • General Ministries
  • Kid/Student Ministries
  • Music
  • Christian Education
  • Serve (Outreach and Missions) 
  • Connect (Caring/Congregational Care)
  • Facilities 
  • Worship
  • Scholarships

ministry funds

The Ministry Funds are general funds given in honor or memorial of someone where principal and interest are available for use immediately. These funds are supported by direct gifts and interest and dividends from the Endowment Funds as well as trust funds. The Ministry Funds are:

  •  General Ministries
  • Kid/Student Ministries
  • Music
  • Christian Education
  • Serve (Outreach and Missions)
  • Connect (Caring/Congregational Care)
  • Facilities
  • Worship
  • Scholarships

walk of faith

Honor and memorialize loved ones with a brick or paver to create the sidewalk leading from the Patio to the Amphitheatre at CUMC. Bricks and pavers are available to be inscribed with names, dates, or a short message as we build this new walkway. Learn more here.

griffith legacy fellowship

As we celebrated All Saint's Sunday in November 2021, CUMC announced a new fellowship of those committed to providing a legacy through the ministries of Carlisle UMC. The Griffith Legacy Fellowship encourages conversation and plans to include CUMC in estate planning; with an opportunity for us to thank you now and invite you to hear annually from our Pastors and leaders about CUMC plans for the future. giving to legacy funds

 You may make gifts to the CUMC Legacy Funds Program through:

  1. A gift of money.  You can make your check payable to “Carlisle United Methodist Church”.   Gifts can be made in honor of or in memory of a loved one.

  2. Your will.  In your will, you can name “Carlisle United Methodist Church, located in Carlisle, Pa” as a recipient of a portion of your estate. In your will, you can bequeath:
    1. A specific dollar amount or designated assets
    2. A percentage of the total estate  
    3. The residue of estate or a percentage of the residue of the estate after specific bequests
  3. A life insurance policy.  In the policy you can name Carlisle United Methodist Church as your beneficiary or contingent beneficiary.
  4. A charitable gift annuity.  A charitable gift annuity is an agreement between you, Carlisle United Methodist Church and The United Methodist Stewardship Foundation of Central Pennsylvania in which you transfer cash or securities and in return you receive guaranteed payments for life. These payments may be made to you or any other one or two designated beneficiaries.

  5. A gift of real estate.

  6. A transfer of stocks, bonds or other appreciated securities.

We encourage you to consider offering your gift without restriction for the church to determine its needs and use.  If you wish to donate to a particular area of ministry, gifts may be “designated” for one of the following:

  1. A Ministry Fund
  2. A General Endowment Project Fund
  3. A Designated Endowment Project Fund
  4. An approved Memorial and Honor Gifts Project

CUMC promises you that:

1.  Your gift will be used as designated by you at the time of your gift or as directed in your will or other gift document if such direction is in conformity with Carlisle UMC policy on Gifts.

2.  The principal of any endowment fund will not be used except in extraordinary circumstances and then only with a payback plan.

3.  Investment will be in accordance with United Methodist Social Principles.
