Mary Fetrow attends the 8:15am Worship Service

Mary is the daughter of Russell and Irene Fetrow. She has one brother, Russ, and one sister, Judy.

Mary became a member of Carlisle United Methodist Church in 2013. Before that she had joined Allison UM Church in 1986 where she served on the Administrative Board (secretary for a few years), Scholarship Committee, Hospitality Committee, Staff-Parish Relations, Nominating Committee, and Welfare Committee.

At CUMC Mary is a member of the Busy Bag Committee for Samaritan Fellowship, on the “dessert committee” for the Wed. Salvation Army’s Dinner, contributes to Hospitality Committee, is a member of W.O.W. and on the Kitchen Committee for the new church. Mary has also worked at Project SHARE and volunteered at Bosler Library.

Mary has traveled to all of the US States except 3 and has traveled to Europe (mostly France) 13 times! In fact, when she taught French at Big Spring High School, she was the first to take 200+ students to France. It must also be mentioned that in 1994 Mary was presented the Carlisle Area’s Finest Educator award and was elected to the Hall of Honor at Big Spring High School in 1993. WOW!!

In 2014, Mary became very ill and thought she had the flu. It turned out to be, as the Dr. told her friend, a life/death situation. She had a double by-pass operation. While waiting for the operation, Sister Ann Marie at Holy Spirit gave her a photo of Christ standing by and directing the surgeon as he operated. This meant a great deal to Mary and made her unafraid of the future. She was permitted to hold onto the photo until she was asleep. The operation was successful! Unfortunately she had to have 4 other operations, but each time she made sure to have that photo with her. Thankfully, she has recovered and has resumed many of her normal activities. After each operation she says, “I was so thankful because I saw many who were experiencing situations much more difficult than mine. I am especially grateful to be alive so that I am able to experience my great nieces and great nephews grow up.”

When Mary was asked, “Tell me about one time you saw how God can use the church body to help love one another.” She replied, “Helping to provide desserts for Ron Chipriano and John Roller on Salvation Army’s Wednesday dinner has shown the love of these two men for the less fortunate. Ron and John make sure they not only fill the stomachs of these people, but also help them with prayers and show and teach them about the love of God. I admire these two gentlemen for their work.”
