Mondays: September 7-28, 6pm at CUMC (or via Zoom)

For those feeling the weight of mental health challenges, we need hope that God is still good. He promises never to leave us, and he's sovereign over every minute of our challenges and difficulty. In this book, Aaron Hoover normalizes the relationship between faith and suffering. Aaron is a pastor who has battled anxiety and depression for two decades and is compassionate and empathetic toward the similar experiences of others. Aaron's writing is a great reminder that you're not alone, God is with you and He has a plan for your life. Led by Michelle Williams.

The Land is Not Empty

Wednesday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm 333 S Spring Garden Street Carlisle PA 17013

Wednesdays: September 9-November 18, 6:30pm at CUMC (or via Zoom)

In The Land is Not Empty, author Sarah Augustine unpacks the harm of the Doctrine of Discovery - a set of laws rooted in the fifteenth century that gave Christian governments the moral and legal right to seize lands they "discovered" despite those lands already being populated by indigenous peoples. Legitimized by the church and justified by a misreading of Scripture, the Doctrine of Discovery says a land can be considered "empty" and therefore free for the taking if inhabited by "heathens, pagans, and infidels." Led by Sharon Edwards, Chris Benson, and Cheryl Hale.
